The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) stated that the supply of electricity to multiple areas was disrupted following an issue with the Kelanitissa and Kukule-Ganga Power Plants. Electricity will be supplied by the Sapugaskanda power plant until repairs are completed, the CEB added.

However, things may not be too rosy for us. A.G.U Nishantha, President of the CEB Technological Engineers and Superintendents' Union, stated that the CEB’s ongoing inability to purchase fuel puts the the country at risk for more long term power failures in the future. The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation has asked the CEB to settle Rs 18 billion rupees of outstanding payments - out of Rs 91 billion owed. The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka has invited external consultants to look into the CEB’s financial woes and given the CEB verbal permission to have power cuts on a daily basis if needed.
